Need more documentation

description

It appears that all of the tutorials are based on SQL-generated models. However, I'm trying to create a simple model from scratch, and there are limitations that seem to be imposed by the UI.

For instance, how does one specify a one-to-many relationship between two entities? The relationship dialog only accepts a number for the "Items Max" field, and although the tooltip says "(0 for conditional)", the update button remains disabled until you enter a positive integer. I want to enter "*" to indicate that there is no maximum number of items.

I'm also a bit confused by the terminology. What are "Collections", "Methods", "Entity References", etc. used?

Hi J,

As you mentioned in the discussion, it generally is easier to use an existing db structure as the starting point for your model rather than doing it by hand. But, of course you can do it all by hand. One good way to figure out what you should enter is to load a model from a db, then look at the relationships that are constructed. If you have ItemsMin value of 0 and ItemsMax value of -1, at least the templates in the sample packs interpret that as a conditional one-to-many relationship A0--------->*B. Of course you can write templates that interpret this model data differently. You have the power to interpret the model data however you want to.

Check out the online help for terminology, etc. Under Resources/Mo+ Model Reference/Model Elements defines Collection, Method, etc.

I will try to address newer version of Visual Studio and SMO this coming weekend.
